Celebrating an achievement is very necessary, but in the correct way!
When you’ve worked hard for something and put a lot of effort into it and you achieve it, for sure you need to celebrate. It’s how you celebrate which is important. Celebrations can easily be overdone so you need to ensure it is not too much.
Celebrating in the right way is very necessary. It is a reward for hard work. It gives a sense of pride in one’s achievement and lightens your spirit. It motivates you to pursue more achievements (big and small). If it is in a team, it also builds a bond between players and makes them proud to be together as a team. It also helps to build relationships between team members. It helps us to enjoy what we are doing and not just put our heads down and work. Celebrating causes positive energy which is great for one’s soul and we need more of this.
Equally important as celebrating your own victories, is also to be able to celebrate with somebody else. Celebrate their achievement!
But, celebrating can also be negative if you go too far. Ensure that when you celebrate, other people may never get the idea that you think you are better than them. You must not look down on someone when celebrating, but rather encourage others to do good as well. Celebrating in a way that you lose your dignity is unacceptable. For example being so happy with your achievement that you get drunk and do stupid things. This makes people loose respect for you, the respect which they’ve gained for you through the hard work which you have put in.
What is the right way of celebrating? First of all, you need to give thanks to the Lord as it is only by His strength that you are successful. You should feel great and grateful for your accomplishments! You also need to stay humble. Do not gloat. If you won a competition, thank your competitors and give them a compliment. People should not feel uncomfortable with your celebrations.
Bottom line: do not do anything which breaks down anybody else or yourself. But YES, celebration is necessary. Enjoy!
